Our Mudpies Program is a seven-week course for kids aged 7-12 years. We run four terms across the school year:

We provide the space and freedom for your child to feel safe and happy, get their hands muddy, and create imaginative works of art they will be proud of.

Mudpies first began in Mullumbimby as a small clay club for local children. We have since grown out of the Scout Hall (!) and you can now find our dedicated studio space in the Byron Arts & Industry Estate.

We believe that all creativity should be fun and rewarding, which is why we provide quality teaching within an entertaining and social learning environment that will have children learning and smiling at the same time.

Your child will learn:

  • Where clay comes from and how we prepare it
  • Throwing on the potters wheel
  • Building techniques: pinching, coiling & slab building
  • How to work in a group to complete creative tasks

At the completion of the program, students can expect to have a small collection of pieces ready to be fired and taken home.

Our Mudpies Program is run by Byron School of Clay Director, Todd Beatson, who has a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching from The University of Melbourne, as well as five years experience running kids clay classes.
